MIAA Week One: Nationally-Ranked Tigers & Hornets Await

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team has a tough start to the conference slate as they travel to No. 10 Fort Hays State on Tuesday night and host No. 25 Emporia State Thursday.

The Lopers (5-2) ended a 14-game losing streak to the FHSU Tigers last year, picking up a rare win, 78-64, in Gross Memorial Coliseum. UNK also beat the always-tough Hornets, 84-79, at the Health & Sports Center. It was Kearney's first win over ESU in 18 years. Check the women's basketball schedule page for this year's tip times and media links.

UNK starts the week third in the MIAA in turnover margin (+7.3), fourth in scoring defense (54.6) and fifth in both scoring offense (76.1) and rebounding margin (+8.0). And thanks to efforts of 28 (Central Christian) and 26 (Manhattan Christian) assists, the Lopers are at an MIAA-best 17.4 dimes a night.

Showing great balance, Kearney has no one in double figures but 10 between 5.4-9.4 points per game. On the glass five Lopers pull down at least 3.7 boards a night with seven players have at least 10 assists. Finally, nine UNK players have made at least one three.

Due to finals, UNK gets next week off before hosting Nebraska Christian College on Saturday, December 15.
