Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team faces former RMAC rival Regis University and upstart Colorado-Colorado Springs this weekend in the Mile High state.
UNK (2-4) will face the RU Rangers (3-1) in a double header on Saturday while playing the UCCS Mountain Lions (2-4) in single games on Friday and Saturday. Note the games at UCCS, a second-year program, will be held at Falcon Field on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Check the
Loper schedule page for scheduled first pitch times and media links.
Last spring, Kearney took three of four from UCCS in the first-ever home games for the program. UNK pitching held the Mountain Lions to just two runs over the final three games (24 innings).
Two years ago, the Lopers dropped two of three to the Rangers in Denver. In that series, the teams combined for 55 runs thanks to 81 hits, 15 walks, 15 errors and 10 hit batters.
Through six games this spring, UNK has a .300 team batting average with six homers and 23 doubles. Sophomore first baseman
Ty Roseberry (.737, five doubles, two HR's and 12 RBI's) may not see a pitch to hit this weekend with junior outfielder
Brandon Hernandez (.375) and sophomore infielder
Calvin Rudolph (.346, four doubles and six RBI's) also getting off to good starts.
On the mound, right handed relievers
Peyton Pocock (6.0 innings in two appearances) and
Thomas Ruwe (5.0 innings in four appearances) have yet to give up a run with senior starter
Mitchell Robinson (1-0, 3.21 ERA) solid as usual. He's about to make his 40th career start, joining just three other Lopers to reach that mark.
UNK begins MIAA play next weekend at Southwest Baptist.
