Four More HR's, Gem Highlight Ninth Straight Win

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Mitchell Robinson threw a complete game three-hitter and Nebraska-Kearney hit four more home runs to defeat Lindenwood, 16-2 (7 innings), Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.

UNK (15-10, 8-3) has won nine in a row, the longest winning streak since the 2010 squad won 10 straight. In its last two games, the Lopers have outscored the opposition 33-3 and hit 10 dingers. Kearney has also taken advantage of the 10-run rule (game called when one team is ahead by 10 runs) three times during this current 14-game home stand.

The Lions (12-13, 5-9), a 2017 College World Series qualifier, scored the first run of the game but then gave up 16 unanswered. Lindenwood also saw starting pitcher Kyle Hentis have to leave after 1.2 innings due to an apparent back injury.

Kearney busted open things with a seven-run fourth and a six-run fifth. Ahead 3-1, the Loper fourth featured eight hits including a three-run shot by senior second baseman Scott Platt (Longmont, Colo.) and a two-run long ball by redshirt freshman shortstop Peter Carlson (3 for 4, three runs & three RBI's).

In its next at-bat, UNK had four more hits led by a three-run homer to right by junior right fielder Alex Achertmann (2 for 4, two runs & four RBI's) and two-run double off the bat of senior designated hitter Dallas Schramm (2 for 3, three runs & two RBI's).  

Finishing with 19 hits, UNK got another leadoff homer by junior center fielder Brett Young (2 for 4, thee runs & one RBI.) For the fourth time in this home stand he led off the bottom of the first with a homer. This time, it came on the very first pitch he saw.

On the mound, Robinson (Golden, Colo.) improved to 3-2 by striking out five Lions and giving up just one earned run. Walking three and allowing three singles, Robinson now has 45th career starts as a Loper, second most in school history. His current career inning total of 255.3 also ranks second on the all-time list. Between 2007-2010, Dr. Jared Loschen logged 286.0 innings over 53 appearances (48 starts).
