Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 610 to place third at the Bob Writz Invitational Sunday evening in Lakewood, Colo.

The two-day, seven-team tourney was held at the par 72 Bear Creek Golf Course (7,188 yards). This was the Lopers second event of the semester after the UNK Spring Invitational was snowed out last week. The team began the spring season in late February at the St. Leo Invite in Florida.

UNK had rounds of 309 and 301 to trail only tourney host Colorado School of Mines (590) and Colorado Christian (604). Kearney came in ahead of, among others, MIAA rival Fort Hays State (648) and Central Region member Sioux Falls (652).

Hebron junior Jay Cottam led the Lopers by firing a 4-over 148 (75-73). One of four golfers to tie for second place, Cottam was among the tourney leaders in birdies (four) and was even on par 3 holes. Tim Amundson of Mines was the medalist thanks to a 2-over 146 (74-72).

Also for UNK, English senior Bradley Hill (T-16th/9-over 153; 80-73) and Bancroft senior Preston Peters (T-18th/10-over 154; 79-75) cracked the top 20. Peters was 1-under on par 5 holes with Hill 1-over on par 4 holes.

Rounding out this weekend's lineup was Kearney sophomore Cody Troudt (T-31st/158; 75-73) and Texas junior Riley Williams (T-44th/166; 86-80). Finally, playing as individuals were Potter freshman Nathan Dvorak (T-56th; 180) and Colorado senior Bridger Ryan (58th; 195).

UNK heads to the Broncho Stampede on April 16-17.
