3/25/2018 4:38:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Sarah Handrahan threw 3.2 innings of strong relief and Nebraska-Kearney used a balanced offensive attack to beat Central Missouri, 7-4, in game one of a double header Sunday afternoon in Hays, Kan.

Behind a three-hit complete game shut out by junior Shelby Clark, the Jennies (17-15, 6-2) won the night cap by a 7-0 score. The Lopers, who ended UCM's seven-game win streak today, have won six of eight to be at 10-19 (6-6) overall.

These games were originally set for Dryden Park in Kearney on Saturday but moved South due to wet field conditions. On the spring, UNK is 6-3 in games played in Hays, Kan.

Handrahan (Festus, Mo.) picked up her second win as a Loper by allowing one earned run on three hits and walk. Fanning one, she blanked UCM in the fifth inning and then gave way to senior Abbey Martin with two down in the seventh. Martin (Pleasant Grove, Utah) got another save by getting a ground ball to short.

UNK scored six of its run in the bottom of the first thanks to four hits and three UCM errors. Sophomore first baseman Sara Sempek (Papillion) had an RBI single to short with senior pitcher Meg Housholder (Parking, Colo.) bringing home another run with a single to left.

Sophomore  designated player Calli Wiseman (Millard South) was one of three Lopers to have two hits in the win. Overall, seven players combined for 10 hits.

In the night cap, Clark didn't strike out a Loper but improved to 3-1 by walking just one and allowing only three singles. At the plate, the Jennies scored three in the first, two in the sixth and one more in the second and fifth innings.

Finishing with 12 hits, UCM was led by designated player Payton Summers (3 for 4, one run & three RBI's) and first baseman Hailey Crabtree (3 for 4, two runs & one RBI).

For UNK, freshman Emma Osowski (Skutt Catholic) got a pinch hit single and Martin didn't allow an earned run in 2.1 innings of relief.

UNK heads to Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern State next weekend.
