Central Missouri Uses 13 Hits to Win Again

Kearney, Neb. – Senior designated hitter Travis Able went 3 for 5 with four RBI's and two pitchers combined to throw a six-hitter to help No. 10/11 Central Missouri down Nebraska-Kearney, 13-3 (7 innings), Saturday afternoon in Warrensburg, Mo.

The Mules (24-7, 15-5) swept the series from the Lopers (17-14, 10-7) thanks to a 2.52 ERA and holding UNK to 18 total hits.

UCM tallied three runs in its half of the second to erase a 2-1 deficit. They then busted things open with two in the fifth, three in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Battling third, Able had a two-run double in the seventh, a run scoring single in the sixth and an RBI ground out in the first. The Mules tallied 13 hits with six different players having a multi-hit effort.

UNK was stymied once again at the plate, this time by junior right handers Ben Kelsch (6.0 innings, six hits, three runs and six K's) and Evan Rathburn (1.0 inning, no runs, one K). They worked around four walks to blank the Lopers in five innings.

Redshirt freshman left fielder Josh Robinson (Golden, Colo.) did hit a two-run shot in the second. That marks his first collegiate home run. Also, junior right fielder Alex Achtermann (Denver) went 2 for 4 with a run; he was the only Loper all weekend to have a multi-hit effort.

Finally, Oregon junior Jared Bell (1-2) allowed three earned over the first three innings.

Kearney heads to Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday afternoon.
