Freshman Helps Lopers Win in St. Joe

Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Claire Neil didn't allow a single point to help 38th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney down Missouri Western State, 6-3, in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Lopers, going 2-1 on the week, are now 14-5 (4-3) while the Griffons drop to 10-8 (2-4).

At number three doubles, Neil (Papillion-LaVista) and junior Sherry Sun (China) won 8-0. UNK then moved ahead 2-0 in the dual after an 8-4 win at number two.

The Lopers then secured the dual thanks to sweeping three through six singles, each in straight sets. Senior Emma Neil (Papillion-LaVista), at number four, tallied the clincher with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Earlier senior Amanda Alvarez (Spain) won 6-0, 6-2 at number three and Claire Neil recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win from the fifth spot in the order. During the dual season, she is now 9-3 in singles and 11-3 in doubles.

Both Kearney squads head to Seward County (Kan.) C.C. on Tuesday and then MIAA foes Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist come to town next weekend.
