Kearney, Neb. - Junior right fielder Sarah Radae hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the McKendree (Ill.) Panthers rally past Nebraska-Kearney, 11-10, Sunday afternoon in Joplin, Mo.
The game was part of the annual Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Invitational. UNK (4-13) went 1-3 on the weekend as it lost to the Rockhurst (Mo.) Hawks, 10-3, Sunday morning.
Against the Panthers (9-3) from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Lopers scored seven unanswered runs to erase a 9-3 hole. McKendree jumped out to a 7-3 lead after two complete thanks to a six-run second and then added two more in the fourth.
UNK scored twice in the sixth and then erupted for five in the seventh to take an improbable lead. Sophomores
Alexis Ray (Platte City, Mo.) and
Alexis Howe (Papillion-LaVista) had back-to-back two-run doubles to give Kearney its second lead of the game.
However, MU quickly regained momentum in the bottom of the innings thanks to a hit batter, walk and passed ball. Radae, the number seven hitter, delivered the game winner with no outs.
The Lopers out hit the Panthers, 13-7, but five errors led to eight unearned runs. UNK also left 10 runners stranded. Overall, six players had a multi-hit game including Ray (3 for 5, two runs and two RBI's) and Howe (2 for 5, three RBI's).
In the circle, sophomore
Erin Hallman (Lakewood, Colo.) got the start and allowed two earned over six full innings. She fanned two, walked three and allowed six hits. McKendree was sparked by catcher senior Rebecca Franke (2 for 3, two runs and three RBI's).
The RU Hawks (6-9) saw junior Shannon Greene toss a seven-hit complete game. She fanned three Lopers, didn't walk a batter and gave up seven hits (five singles.).
UNK held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-1 but gave up seven in the bottom of the fifth. The big inning featured six hits including a wo-run homer by nine-hole hitter Kelsey Tepen (2 for 3, one run and three RBI's). The 'Hawks out hit the Lopers, 13-7, and also drew four walks.

Cheyenne Hamilton (Frederick, Colo.) and true freshman catcher
Karlee Arnold (Parker, Colo.) hit homers with Ray going 2 for 3 from the two hole.
With Tuesday's scheduled home opener vs. Chadron State postponed to a later date, UNK won't play again until next weekend at Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State.Â
