Two Named to Academic All-American Squad

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior Preston Peters and junior Jay Cottam have both been tabbed as 2018 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars.  

The Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) sponsors and runs the team. To qualify, a golfer must be a senior or junior academically, have competed three years at the collegiate level, have participated in at least 50% of his teams events during the 2017-18 academic year, have at least a 78.0 season stroke average and maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.

For the recently competed 2017-18 year, a record 475 golfers made the cut (265 in D1, 126 in D2, 62 in D3 and 23 NAIA). 

Cottam (Hebron) set a new Loper record for season stroke average last year (73.16) while maintaing a 3.55 GPA as a Business Administration (Marketing) major. Peters capped a two-year UNK career by ranking fourth on the team in stroke average (75.95) in 2017-18. The Brancroft native has a 3.96 GPA in Business Administration.
