Week Four Preview: Lopers Remain Away from Home

9/20/2018 10:44:00 AM

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team remains on the road this weekend to face Emporia State and Washburn.

The Friday afternoon game at ESU (4-1-1) is non-conference with Sunday's battle in Topeka against the Ichabods (3-3-0) the start of league play. Check the Loper schedule page for kick times and media links.

In its short history, UNK (2-4-0) has played well against Emporia, posting a 5-3-2 record. The five wins are the most by the Lopers against any foe. Last year the two teams battled to a one all tie in Kearney with the rematch in Kansas going to the Hornets, 1-0, in double overtime. That was the regular season finale for Kearney.

On the other side of the coin, Washburn has been a bit of an Achilles heel for the Lopers as the 'Bods, after last Friday night's 1-0 win at Cope Stadium, are 7-2-3 all-time vs. UNK. The seven losses are the second most to one foe, trailing only eight to Fort Hays State.

Washburn is down its starting keeper, sophomore Bailey Trent, after she suffered a broken leg in the win over UNK. Defender Whitney Bockover took over in the emergency situation and got the win but true freshman keeper Bailee Russell is now the starter.

In the early going, UNK is fourth in the MIAA in corner kicks (28), fifth in goals allowed (seven) and tied for fifth in saves (29). Individually, senior keeper Allie Prososki is seventh in save percentage (.818) and tied for fourth in goals against average (1.00).

The Lopers began a four-game home stand next Friday afternoon when Northeastern State (5-1-0) visits.
