Home Stand Starts Thursday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team starts a three-game home stand when the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats visit the Health & Sports Center Thursday night.

The Lopers (11-6, 4-4) have won three of four to move into sole possession of seventh place in the MIAA standings, just a game behind fifth place and defending national champion Central Missouri. UNK has 11 regular season games remaining, seven coming at home.

Missouri Western State visits Buckle Court on Saturday afternoon; this is the only meetings with the Bearcats and Griffons this year. Check the women's basketball schedule page for tip times and media links.

UNK is 22-4 at home since the start of last season. One of those wins was an 88-79 OT thriller vs. the 'Cats last January. Senior guard Michaela Barry tied the school record point total for a game (43) as the Lopers rallied from a 10-point second half deficit. Two days later Kearney eked out a 55-49 win over Mo West in a game where the Griffons played just five players. They returned to the H & S Center five weeks later with three reserves and upset the Lopers in the first round of the MIAA Tournament, 60-57.

Currently, a very balanced Blue & Gold attack has seven players between 5.5-11.6 points per game. Eight different Loper have started at least one game, 12 log at least 10 minutes an appearance and five have played in all 17 games. That last group includes four true freshmen. Finally, UNK starts the week first in the MIAA in assists per game (15.6) and second in turnover margin (+3.4).

The Lopers have only one game next week, a Saturday afternoon tilt vs. No. 8 Fort Hays State.
