Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fourth Scoreless Draw Yields MIAA Point

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney and Missouri Western State women's soccer teams combined for 44 shots and 10 corners in a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph.

The Lopers (1-6-5, 0-2-3) earn a third league point and set a new school mark for ties in a season. The 2015 squad tied four games with UNK now having 28 in its 11-year history.

Now in a three-way tie for 10th place in the MIAA standings, UNK peppered the Griffons (4-6-2, 1-3-1) with 21 shots including nine on goal. Omaha senior Megan Merkel, for a second straight game, tied the school-record in shots with eight while five others had two apiece.

UNK almost won the game with eight seconds left but MWSU keeper Anna Mayer saved a shot taken by sophomore Kylee Moore (Omaha Burke). Senior keeper Emily Thuss (Raymore, Mo.) recorded her 13th and final save early in the first OT with two other Griffs shots in the period either going wide or blocked by the Loper defense.

Kearney had half its shots in the first 45 minutes with Mo West having a 3-1 advantage in extra time. The Griffs also had seven corners, five coming in the second half. Finally, among the Lopers to have two shots was freshmen Payton Rhen (Omaha Skutt) and Lily Engeman (Olathe, Kan.).

UNK hosts Missouri Southern State Friday at 1 p.m. with the nationally-ranked Central Missouri visiting on Sunday.
