Fourth Loper Team to Reach 20-0

Kearney, Neb. – Seven players had at least four kills and third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney had eight team blocks to sweep Missouri Southern State (-19, -25, -15) Saturday afternoon in Joplin.

This is just the fourth Loper squad (20-0, 11-0) to win its first 20 matches, following the 1990, 2004 and 2016 teams.

UNK held the Lions (11-10, 4-7) to a .083 hitting efficiency as they dug up 65 balls in addition to the work at the net. Kansas senior outside Julianne Jackson had a team-best five blocks, Bennington freshman middle Michaela Bartels added four stuffs with Omaha junior right side Mary Katherine Wolfe at two.

Things were still tight as there were 22 ties and 11 lead changes over the first two sets. The Lopers closed the first set on an 11-6 run highlighted by three kills from North Platte redshirt freshman outside Sami Mauch. MSSU rebounded in set two and took an 18-17 lead on a kill b CC Pollard. After a timeout, the Lopers went on a 6-5 run to knot things up at 23 before the Lions committed a service error. However, UNK was then blocked and committed an unforced error to allow Mo Southern to reach set point. The miscues continued as the Lions hit one long and then Wolfe recorded a solo block to make it 26-24.

UNK hit .324 (14-2-37) to roll in the third set. Overall, Wolfe (nine), Gretna freshman outside Kamryn Schuler (seven) and Jackson (seven) combined for 23 of UNK's 42 kills with Jackson also recording 14 digs. Finally Lincoln sophomore libero Lindsay Nottlemann had a team-best 16 digs and four assists.

The Lopers host Emporia State on Tuesday night.
