Crack Open the Record Books for 10th Win

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team set three school records in a 127-39 win over Manhattan Christian (Kan.) College Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers improve to 10-1 while the Thunder remain 0-6 as this was an exhibition contest per National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) rules.

UNK, shooting 61% (48 of 79) from the field, set new school standards for points scored and threes made and attempted (24 of 48) while tying the record for margin of victory (88) and assists (38).

Holding the overmatched Thunder to 29% (15 of 51) field goal shooting and winning the battle on the glass by a 53-17 margin, the Lopers got scoring from 13 different players with six in double figures. That included four reserves.

Crofton junior guard Kelsey Sanger led the way with a career-high 25 points on 10 of 11 (5 of 6 threes) shooting. That tied the school record for field goal percentage in a game (minimum 10 attempts) as Cindy Hajek also was 10 of 11 in a 1995 game vs. Fort Hays State.

Sanger reached her point total in just 13 minutes as UNK led 29-11 after the first quarter and then blasted MCC to the tune of 38-5 in the second. The Lopers made 14 of 18 shots (78%), including eight triples, in that 10-minute span.

Next Iowa freshman forward Madison Dreckeman had 17 points and seven boards, Kansas sophomore forward Elisa Backes went for 13 points and six dimes, South Dakota sophomore guard Klaire Kirsch pulled down 10 rebounds, had five assists, five points and three steals with Colorado junior guard Shelby Megyeri hitting two threes to score six.

UNK heads to Puerto Rico on Wednesday and will have games on Thursday (U. of the Sacred Heart) and Friday (Puerto Rico-Mayaguez). The game vs. PRM is a Division II-countable contest with both contests currently set for 4 p.m. Central tip offs.
