12/17/2019 9:52:00 AM

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked second in the final AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Assoc.) Division II Coaches Top 25 poll of the 2019 season.

UNK (38-1) finished as National Runner Up this season, falling to Cal State San Bernardino (33-0) in the National Championship match last Saturday in Denver. It marked the first-ever D2 volleyball title match between two undefeated teams. CSSB joins Hawaii Pacific (2000) and Concordia-St. Paul (2009) as the only D2 volleyball squads to go through a year unscathed.

The Coyotes received 1,150 points and all 46 first place nods with UNK picking up 1,104 points. The Lopers, who also were 2nd to finish the 2005 campaign, have now been ranked in the final AVCA poll 28 times, tied for third most with Minnesota-Duluth. Central Missouri (33) leads in this category with Tampa (31) second. Finally, this marks the 348th week the Lopers have appeared in the poll, third most behind UCM, UT and UMD.

Central Region runner up Concordia is third (1,012) and one of 12 region teams in the Top 25. The others are Washburn (5th), Duluth (6th), Northern State (8th), St. Cloud State (10th), Central Missouri (11th), Wayne State (13th), Winona State (18th), Upper Iowa (19th), Southwest Minnesota State (22nd) and Northwest Missouri State (25th). For good measure Augustana, Minnesota State and Central Oklahoma received votes.

Kearney begins spring ball in March 2020.
