Splitsville in St. Charles

Kearney, Neb. – Junior Erin Hallman allowed five hits over five innings and Nebraska-Kearney racked up 10 singles to blow by Lindenwoond, 10-1, in the first game of a double header Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions (12-10, 2-4) busted open a pitcher's duel in the night cap by erupting for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to win 8-0. With the setback the Lopers (6-14, 2-4) see a four-game win streak come to an end.

Hallman (Lakewood, Colo.) won her third straight start by allowing five singles and two walks over 67 pitches. She didn't record a strikeout but blanked LWU over the final four innings.

UNK scored two in the first to never trail and then busted things open with a six-run fourth. Six different Lopers had a hit with senior third baseman Cheyenne Hamilton (Frederick, Colo.) leading the way by going 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI's from the cleanup spot. Finally, freshman left fielder Jasmyn Broussard (Millard North) pushed her hit streak to eight straight by going 2 for 3.

Broussard had one of UNK's three hits in the next game but the Lopers never solved sophomore right hander Marina Esparza. She earned her first win of 2019 by going all five innings, fanning four and walking over 70 pitches.

Missouri junior Sarah Handrahan (3-4) almost was equal to the task as she shut out LWU over the first four innings. However, the Lion fifth featured eight hits and three Loper errors. Leadoff hitter and junior left fielder Stormee Galka (Kearny, Ariz.) went 2 for 4 and ending things with a walk off three-run double.

Weather permitting UNK will play the Lincoln Blue Tigers (4-22, 1-9) in a double header Saturday starting at noon.
