Dominant Sweep in the Capital City

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team finished up the regular season with a 9-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan Tuesday night in Lincoln.

The Lopers improve to 15-12 while the Division III Prairie Wolves fall to 2-15.

Using the "old" scoring system, UNK took all three doubles and six singles matches. Resting nationally-ranked freshman Vasilisa Polunova (Russia) and thus using a different lineup didn't stop the Lopers from allowing only seven points all night.

Senior Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and sophomore Claire Neil (Papillion) are now 8-0 at number three doubles after an 8-1 win. Next, freshman Fidan Ibrahimova (Lincoln SE) and Pranathi Gannavaram (Lee's Summit, Mo.) shut out their NWU opponent a spot higher in the lineup.

UNK took number two through five singles by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. That foursome included Ibrahimova (No. 3) and Parnell (No.4) with sophomore Lili Fattig (Lexington) winning 6-1, 6-1 at number six.

The eight-team MIAA Tournament bracket will be released this weekend. The Lopers will be the seventh seed and face nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma.
