9/19/2019 1:19:00 PM

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team, coming off its first win of the 2019 season, enters MIAA play this weekend with a game at Washburn and a home tilt vs. Fort Hays Sate.

UNK, WU, Hays and Emporia are all in a four-team pod. The first time the Lopers play these schools they do not count in the league standings; the second time around they games will count and earn points for the MIAA Tournament.

The Lopers (1-1-2) face the Ichabods (2-1-0) Friday night and host the rival Tigers (2-1-0) Sunday afternoon. Check the Loper schedule page for media links and kickoff times.

UNK is 3-7-3 all-time vs. WU and 3-9-1 against the Tigers. The Lopers had two overtime games with Hays last year, losing 1-0 in Kansas and 2-1 in Cope Stadium. A year earlier UNK walked off FHSU at home, 1-0, in extra time. The games with Washburn went just 90 minutes last year, UNK winning 2-1 in Kansas and losing 1-0 at home.

To date Kearney has allowed just one goal in 400 minutes of work. Keeper Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic) and the defense have limited the opposition to 36 shots (11.1 min avg.) with the three shutouts already tied for sixth most in school history. The 2013 and 2016 UNK squads blanked eight foes to set the record.

Norfolk senior Maddie Love has UNK's lone goal so far as well as team-highs in shots (10) and shots on goal (five). Omaha freshman Emma Weis assisted on Love's goal Sunday in Colorado and has taken four shots with seven others between two and eight shots. That large group includes newcomers Payton Rhen (Omaha Skutt), Ariella Mesa (Olathe, Kan.) and Katie Shields (Omaha Mercy).

UNK returns home next weekend to face Emporia State and Washburn.
