Rare September Meet Kicks Off 2019-2020 Year

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney Aqualopers started its 2019-20 season Saturday at the Sam Freas Invitational in Edmond, Okla.

This is believed to be UNK's earliest regular season event. The non-team scoring meet included NCAA Division II competition as well as NAIA schools and junior colleges.

UNK had 12 top 10 finishes led by Lincoln senior Mikara Feit, Kansas sophomore Claire Nash and Illinois freshman Olivia Forrest. Nash was sixth in both the 50 (25.98) and 100 (56.92) freestyles. The 50 had a field of 40 swimmers with the 100 having 31 competitors. Next, Feit was eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.57) and ninth in the 500 free (5:57.81). Forrest cracked the top 12 in the 200 individual medley (8th/2:30.03) and 100 back (11th/1:07.45).

The Aqualopers also swam the 200 free and 200 medley relays. The free foursome, led by Nash and anchored by Norfolk freshman Audrey Stelling, came in seventh (1:45.15) with the medley team placing eighth (1:59.25). Sterling was the third leg and McCook freshman Mollie Tate the second.

UNK returns to the water on Saturday, October 5, with its annual Blue/White Scrimmage. Start time has now changed to 8:30 a.m.
