UNK Goes 3-1 in Texas

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore second baseman Haleigh Hoefs went 4 for 5 with four RBI's to help Nebraska-Kearney knock off Northwestern Oklahoma State, 10-2 (6 innings), Saturday in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The game was part of the Midwestern State Texas Invite. UNK (6-4) fell to the Cameron University (Okla.) Aggies, 6-2, in game two. The Lopers went 3-1 on the weekend.

Hoefs (Lincoln Pius), a 2019 All-American for Chadron State, paced a 15-attack and an offense tallied runs in all six innings. Batting leadoff she had two doubles and two singles with former high school teammate Carlee Liesch going 2 for 2 with a run scored from the nine hole. McCook sophomore center fielder Emily Jacobs (2 for 3, two runs) was effective batting second with another Thunderbolt, sophomore Kelsey Goodban, earning the win thanks to 3.2 scoreless innings of relief work.

Cameron, one of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference, took advantage of four Loper errors to improve to 8-5. The Aggies also saw seniors Bethany Hines and Turner Whorton combine on a six-hitter with the duo fanning nine and walking none.

CU moved ahead for good in the second when they tallied two unearned runs to make it 3-1. They later scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Leadoff hitter and shortstop Brenna Busby finished 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBI's

Liesch (2 for 4, one run & two RBI's) and Arizona redshirt junior left fielder Nicole Spykstra (2 for 3) had multi-hit games for the Lopers.

UNK heads to Oklahoma City next weekend for another tournament.
