Aggies and Rattlers Down UNK

Kearney, Neb. – The Cameron Aggies and St. Mary's Rattlers had strong days at the plate and in the circle to down Nebraska-Kearney, 13-3 and 13-0 (5 innings), Saturday in Oklahoma City.

The games were a part of the three-day Edmond Regional Festival III, co-hosted by Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian. Weather permitting UNK (6-8) will play Midwestern State (2-13) Sunday at 11 a.m. (new start time) in OKC to finish up the weekend. The Lopers beat the Mustangs, 9-3, last weekend in Wichita Falls.

CU (12-6), hailing from Lawton, Okla., defeated the Lopers for the second time this year as they got a combined four-hitter from sophomore Breley Webb and senior Bethany Hines and recorded seven extra base hits. Those included homers from sophomore second baseman Khmari Edwards (2 for 3, two runs & two RBI's) and senior cleanup hitter Callie Busby (2 for 5, one run & four RBI's).

The Aggies scored runs in each of the first five innings including a three sport in the first and three more in the third. Hines improved to 7-4 by fanning four and allowing no earned runs over the final 3.2 innings. UNK got singles from four different players with Kansas redshirt sophomore Megan Blake working a scoreless seventh. Finally Omaha redshirt freshman third baseman Bri Healy had two RBI's.

The Rattlers (7-11), from San Antonio, worked locked in a pitcher's duel with the Lopers in the nightcap. However SMU broke a scoreless tie with two in the top of the fourth and then erupted for 11 runs in the fifth. That big inning featured 10 hits (two doubles and two homers), two Loper errors and a walk.

Saint Mary's saw its first four hitters go a combined 8 for 15 with eight runs and five RBI's. Senior Staci Johns evened her record at 4-4 by throwing a five-inning complete game. She fanned five, walked just one and gave up only two singles.

Kearney natives Kaitlyn Johnson and Avery Wood collected the hits for the Lopers.
