UNK Makes Long Trek to Illinois, Outshines the Stars

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team started a weekend road trip with a 6-1 win at Illinois-Springfield Friday afternoon.

The Lopers improve to 7-2 while the Prairie Stars, from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), fall to 2-2. This dual wasn't on UNK's original schedule but added this month. Also added was tomorrow's (Feb. 29th) matchup at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.

Ranked ninth in the Central Region UNK easily took the doubles point from UIS as it allowed just nine combined points in three matches. This marks the fourth time in duals the doubles have gone 3-0 in doubles.

Kearney finished off the Prairie Stars by winning number two through six singles. Kansas freshman Brooklyn Hunter swept a pro set, 8-0, at number six, Czech junior Anastasia Kuzevanova rallied at number two (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) and German freshman Trang Tran, at number four, was one of three Lopers to win in straight sets.

The Saturday dual vs. the Owls (1-2) is set to begin at 11 a.m. from the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
