New Era Begins in Northwest Texas

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball starts the 2020 season this weekend with six games in the Lubbock Sports Collegiate Invite.

First-year head coach Katie Ackermann and the Lopers will face four teams from the Lone Star Conference (Eastern New Mexico, Texas-Permian Basin, St. Edward's and tourney co-host Lubbock Christian) as well as two former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals (Colorado-Colorado Springs and New Mexico Highlands).

Game times are below with first pitch likely be later due to the tournament format. UNK will play games on "Cooper Field" and at "PlainsCapital Park", LCU's home field.

In the LSC preseason coaches' poll, featuring 17 teams, LCU was ninth, SEU 14th, Eastern came in 15th with UPTB tabbed for 16th. In a 13-team RMAC race, Springs was selected sixth and Highlands 13th.

UNK returns the majority of its roster from a 2019 squad that went 20-24 and finished two games out of fifth place in the MIAA standings.
