Four Bonus Point Wins Yields 24-21 Decision

Kearney, Neb. – The third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team got back-to-back falls and then a major decision to hold off the Newman Jets, 24-21, Thursday night at Kearney High School.

The Lopers improve to 12-6 (2-1) while NU falls to 3-3 (0-2).

UNK held out nationally-ranked Wesley Dawkins (133 lbs.) and Jonathan Killingsworth (141 pounds), giving Newman 12 points. The Jets also picked up one point wins at both 197 and 285 pounds.

Down 15-8 halfway through the Lopers got within one after second-ranked Matt Malcom (Glenwood, Ia.) stuck Kendall Frame at 2:16. At 174 pounds sophomore Terrell Garraway (Lenexa, Kan.) picked up six more points with a fall in 1:53 while fourth-ranked and grad transfer Anthony Mancini (Middletown, Del.) won by a 10-2 score at the next weight. Finally Iowa junior and top-ranked Josh Portillo (Clarion, Ia.) started the night with a 19-0 tech fall.

Kearney heads to Fort Hays State next week to close out the regular season.
