#16 Lopers Swat the Hornets

Kearney, Neb. – The 16th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team hit a season-high .409 and served up 12 aces to sweep Emporia State (-12, -11, -14) Tuesday night in Emporia.

Playing a third straight Tuesday night road match, the Lopers improve to 16-5 (7-5) and take the season series from the Hornets. UNK also wins a third straight match in three sets.

The Lopers overwhelmed the Hornets (4-15, 2-10) as four different players were between seven and 10 kills and five registered an ace. Hastings redshirt sophomore outside Cecilia Beahm (10) led in kills and joined Kearney redshirt sophomore middle Bailee Sterling as Lopers to hit .500 with Kearney senior setter Madison Squiers having a team-best five aces.

There was just fives ties and two changes as UNK had 41 kills in 88 attempts with just five errors (three unforced and two blocks). Earlier this fall the Lopers hit an even .400 to sweep Chadron, its' only other match reaching the .400 mark.

Besides Beahm's efficient night (10-0-20), Sterling had seven kills in 12 swings, Alliance sophomore outside Emersen Cyza had nine kills in 19 attempts (.421) with Kearney senior middle Anna Squiers at nine kills, three blocks and a .471 percentage. Finally, Lincoln senior libero Lindsay Nottlemann had a team-high 12 digs.

From the service line, Squiers had five aces in 16 total attempts with defensive specialists Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) and Jensen Rowse (Minden) combining for five. The total is a season-high and the most since the 2018 squad had 13 aces in a five-set win over Cal State San Marcos.

Emporia was led by Orianna Clements who had 11 kills, hit .33 and dug up four balls.

UNK has a key home match with Central Oklahoma on Friday. The Bronchos (15-5, 8-4) downed Pittsburg State in Edmond tonight to remain in fourth place in the MIAA. The Lopers are in fifth and fell to UCO in four sets earlier this season.
