Long Weekend Equals First Place Finishes

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney Aqualopers came through a long home weekend by placing first on both Friday and Saturday at the Kearney High Pool.

UNK took Friday's "Fall Fest #1" over fellow RMAC members Colorado State-Pueblo and Adams State and NAIA foes Midland and the College of Saint Mary by scoring 549 points. CSUP (482) was second. Next, the Aqualopers won "Fall Fest #2" on Saturday morning by tallying 584 points. This quadrangular featured CSUP, ASU and CSM.

These were the only home events for UNK this season.

On Friday night, Kearney had four first place, four second place and three third place efforts. Kansas senior Claire Nash led the way by winning both the 50 free (24.97) and 100 free (55.16) and anchoring the first place 400 free relay team (3:44.91). She also was anchor on the second place 400 medley relay team (4:12.98) to start the long weekend.

Next, Hastings sophomore diver Ashley Hein (166.70) was first on the 1-meter board with Lincoln freshman Ava Heasty second in the 200 I.M. (2:19.40) and a member of both the placing relay teams. Finally, Lincoln freshman Cori Dolan was third in the 100 free (57.81) with Columbus sophomore Emily Miksch runner up in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.25).

UNK's Saturday point total came thanks to five first place finishers and one second place effort. Both the 200 free (1:44.50) and 200 medley (1:56.27) relay teams led the way with Nash the anchor on both. Heasty and Norfolk junior Audrey Stelling were members of both as well. Nash again was a double winner, taking the 50 free in 25.30 and the 100 free in 54.98. The other Aqualoper winner was Elkhorn sophomore Macy Mollring in the 200 fly (2:26.03) with Omaha freshman Madison Kathol second in the 200 free (2:05.57) and third in the 500 free (5:40.77).

Kearney heads to the Kohawk Invite in Cedar Rapids, Ia., later this month.
