Kearney, Neb. – Fifteenth-ranked Vera Alenicheva rallied for a three-set win at number one singles to help Northwest Missouri State edge Nebraska-Kearney, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at Harmon Park.

Ranked ninth in the Central Region, Northwest (9-4, 5-1) pushes its win streak to three in a row while the Lopers fall to 4-11 (1-4). Prior to first serve UNK honored Claire Neil (Papillion) for her four years of service. This dual, played in cool and cloudy conditions, was moved up two days due to weather.

Kearney took a 1-0 on the scoreboard thanks to wins at number two and three doubles. Neil fell to Italian freshman Sofia Pignataro (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) at number five but Hunter bested Spanish freshman Angela per Moreno (6-3, 2-6, 7-5) to knot things up at three. Finally, Alenicheva, a freshman from Moscow, got past freshman Melisa Becerra in a match win two tie breakers; 6-7 (6), 7-6 (1), 6-2. She is now 11-1 on the spring with Becerra (Colombia) at 7-8.
