2021 Fall Camp Begins; First Practice Monday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney football team reports to fall camp this weekend with the first practice set for Monday, Aug. 9.

A roster of around 140 players will be coming to campus with the Lopers having meetings, practice and a walkthrough almost on a daily basis until the start of school on Monday, Aug. 23. See the complete schedule below; practices and scrimmages are open to the public.

Head coach Josh Lynn and his staff have an extremely veteran team that features eight graduate students, 21 seniors and 27 juniors. The returning 2019 All-MIAA selections are quarterback TJ Davis (Colorado Springs), right tackle Corey Hoelck (Giltner), left tackle Kooper Reece (Valentine) and running back Dayton Sealey (Hastings St. Cecilia).

UNK went 7-5 in 2019, tying for fifth place in the MIAA, beating perennial national power Northwest Missouri State and defeating Winona (Minn.) State in the Mineral Water Bowl. It was the fourth-ever postseason win by the Lopers. Last fall, the Blue & Gold bested in-state rival Chadron State, 45-35, at home and won at league rival Pittsburg State, 31-26, in a very short 2020 season. It was UNK's first win at Pitt in 37 years; the Lopers return to "The Jungle" on Sept. 11.

Since adding 27 newcomers (24 high school seniors and three mid-year transfers) on signing day back in February, UNK has brought in 12 more freshmen and seven transfers. They transfers are quarterback Nathaniel Espinoza (Corona del Mar, Calif.), receivers Kylan Herrera (Cooperas Cove, Texas) and David Ross (Arvada, Colo.) and linebackers Jimmy Harrison (Hobbs, N.M.), Caden McCormack (Lincoln Southwest), Zach Schlager (McCook, Neb.) and Sione Taufalele (Santa Clara, Calif.).

UNK opens the season at home on Thursday, Sept. 2, against Missouri Southern State. The other home opponents are Washburn (Sept. 18), Missouri Western State (Oct. 9/Homecoming), Lincoln (Oct. 23) and Northeastern State (Nov. 11).
