Kearney, Neb. – Senior Faviola Gonzalez shot a 6-over par 150 to earn co-medalist honors and the Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team finished runner up at the Golden Bear Classic Tuesday in Maplewood, Minn.

The two-day, nine-team event was held at the par 72 Keller Golf Course and hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. Weather conditions on Monday included wind, rain and a lightening delay while it was sunnier on Tuesday.

It was a two-team race as No. 21 Rogers State fired a 608 to win with the Lopers (618) finishing runner up for a second straight tournament. Well behind these MIAA schools was seven members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, led by third place Wayne State (652).

UNK, which received a vote in the most recent Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Top 25 poll, was again solid with rounds of 308 and 310. That 36-hole tally ranks fifth lowest in school history.

Gonzalez (Puerto Rico) gets her second collegiate win/co-win thanks to 15 pars in the second round and four birdies on Monday (74-76). Four RSU golfers were the next highest finishers with Lydia Sitorus also shooting a 150 (75-75). This past spring Gonzalez won the Wayne State Classic with a 150.

Joining Gonzalez in the top 15 was Kansas freshman Brooke King (T-6th/155; 74-81), Arizona junior Paige Lucero (9th/157; 79-78), Colombian freshman Juliana Botero Molina (10th/158; 81-77) and Kansas sophomore Allison Comer (T-13th/161; 82-79). King had three birdies and 21 pars, Lucero was 1-under on par 3 holes, Molina was even on par 5 holes with Comer having 18 pars. Finally, Minden freshman Kendall Colby played as an individual and came in 48th place (179; 95-84).

UNK heads to the Grace Shin Memorial in Oklahoma Oct. 4-5.
