UNK Easily Takes MIAA Opener

 Kearney, Neb. – The third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team once again dominated Central Missouri, this time racking up four falls and three tech falls to win 45-3 Thursday night in Warrensburg.
 
The Lopers (9-3, 1-0) earn a 11th straight win over UCM (3-5, 0-1) with the last four duals coming by a combined score of 188-9. This was the MIAA opener for both.
 
Recording first periods falls were Lincoln senior Wesley Dawkins (133 lbs.) and South Carolina senior Hayden Prince (197 lbs.) with veterans Matt Malcom (165 lbs.) and Lee Herrington (285 lbs.) sticking their Mule in the second period. Next, nationally-ranked Josh Portillo (125 lbs.), Nick James (141 lbs.) and Austin Eldredge (174 lbs.) each had a tech fall. Finally, top-ranked Sam Turner (141 lbs.) used a penalty point and an escape to get past Darick Lapaglia by a 2-0 count.
 
UNK hosts top-ranked Central Oklahoma next Sunday at the Health & Sports Center.
