Aqualopers Win Home Opener

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney Aqualopers won 11 events to easily get past the College of Saint Mary, 146-46, Saturday afternoon at Kearney High School.

This was the Aqualopers second event of the 2022-23 regular season. After a couple of home intrasquad scrimmages later this month, the next outside competition comes Nov. 4-5 with the UNK Invitational (Adams State, Western Colorado and CSU-Pueblo_

True freshman Maggie Waddington (Norfolk), Miriam Finch (Stillwater, Okla.) and Shayann Parlier (McCook) each won two individual events with Waddington also on the first place 400-free relay team (3:49.03).

Finch first won the 500 free (12:02.76) and then led the way in the 1,000-free (5:52:61). Arizona sophomore Tea Oltjenbruns was third by four seconds in the 500 with Omaha sophomore Madison Kathol in the same spot in the 1,000. Next, Waddington turned in a 25.84 to take the 50 free, a 56.77 to place first in the 100-free and was the third leg for the 400 FR squad. In diving, Parlier managed 172.0 points at 3-meters and 161.40 points at one-meter.

Kansas freshman Gabby Grace cracked the UNK all-time top 10 in the 100-backstroke last week in Oklahoma (4th/1:02.24) and improved upon that effort with a 1:01.77 today. That was good for gold and third in the top 10. She also was on the winning 200-medley (1:54.05) and 400-free relay squads.

Finally, Colorado sophomore Karley Bennett won the 100-butterfly (1:02.13) with Colorado freshman Caralea Holmberg runner up in both the 100-breaststroke (1:04.52) and 200-individual medley (2:19.87).
