Early Goal Helps Jets Edge the Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – Scottish junior Rachel Wolecki tallied a rebound goal in the 15th minute to help Neman edge Nebraska Kearney, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Wichita.

The Jets (1-10-1, 1-4-0) average a 2-1 double overtime loss to the Lopers (0-10-2, 0-4-1) last fall.

UNK had advantages in shots, 12-8, shots on goal, 7-5, and corners, 7-3, but couldn't find the back of the NU goal. Junior keeper Jordan Webster recorded six saves with several Lopers shots going just wide of the net or sailing high above it. That included a one-on-one situation with Webster midway through the second half where the shot on goal went wide left.

NU took advantage of an opportunity early on when senior Bailey Stedman lined up for a free kick from the right wing. Her ball went into the box where it hit off a couple of teammates and Loper defenders before Wolecki got control and saw her first shot blocked. However, she regained possession and found the upper left corner for her first goal of the season.

Wolecki, sophomore Makenzie Shay and sophomore Cassie Moeder each had two shots apiece for the Jets with Lincoln sophomore Mackenzie Smith recording four saves including a couple of key ones in the second half.

Colorado freshman Taylor McGarrahan led UNK with three shots, two being on goal, with Springfield freshman Emma Middleton having two SOG's as well. Finally, Lincoln junior Jacylan Doering and Gretna senior Payton Rhen had two shots apiece.

UNK hosts Rogers State (4-4-4, 1-2-2) next Friday night and Northeastern State (4-2-6, 1-2-2) next Sunday afternoon.
