Lopers Power Through 36 Holes, Win in Pueblo

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team fired a 36-hole total of 607 to win the Pack Classic Sunday night in Pueblo, Colo.

The 15-team tournament, formerly known as the El Cheapo Classic, was hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo at the par 72 Walking Stick G.C. Due to expected poor weather on Monday the event was condensed into one day.

Playing a rare 36-holes in one day, the 35th-ranked Lopers carded rounds of 298 and 309. The 298 is just the fifth sub-300 round in school history and ties for third best overall. UNK held off 40th-rnaked Colorado Christian (610) for the team trophy with the host ThunderWolves (621) third and the next four teams between 623-630.

Kansas sophomore Allison Comer finished third in a field of 81 thanks to a 4-over 148 (73-75). To reach her best 36-hole score as a Loper, her day included six birdies and 21 pars. CCU's Faith Kilgore (142) was the medalist with CSUP's Victoria Hart (146) the runner up.

UNK's next two scorers, Arizona junior Paige Lucero and Colombian Juliana Botero Molina, both tied for seventh with a 152. Lucero (77-75) had her second best 36-hole score as a Loper with Botero Molina having a 1-under 71 in round one. This is her second 71 of the season and she also a 70 to her credit. Lucero managed 21 pars and five birdies with Botero Molina at five birdies and UNK's lone eagle (par 5 4th hole; 447 yards).

Finally, Puerto Rico senior Faviola Gonzalez tied for 16th (155; 77-780) and Kansas freshman Brooke King tied for 48th (164; 80-84).

UNK heads to the Newman Invite in Wichita on April 4-5.
