UNK Reaches MIAA Tourney for First Time

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Andrea Morales threw a no-hitter in game one and picked up the win in game two as No. 6 Rogers State took a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 4-0 and 6-2, Saturday afternoon in Claremore, Okla.

The Hillcats (43-9, 20-6) finish the regular season a perfect 16-0 at home while the Lopers fall to 23-25 (13-13). Thanks to a win by Missouri Southern State over Neman, the Lopers qualified for the eight-team MIAA Tournament next week in Edmond, Okla. This will be UNK's first appearance in the event since joining the conference in 2013; the complete bracket will be released Sunday after the completion of the regular season. A seventh seed is likely in the cards with a game vs. nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma on deck.

An obvious All-American candidate, Morales moved to 25-3 by limiting the Lopers to a single base runner in game one. She walked freshman Sydney Thomason (Ripon Calif.) with two down in the first; the Lopers were fanned 15 times with Morales tossing 85 pitches.

RSU used a double and single to score the winning run in its half of the first. They tacked on three more runs with right fielder and three-hole hitter Lana Gass going 2 for 3 with two runs.

UNK came back to lead game two 2-0 as Lincoln senior Carlee Liesch had an RBI double in the first with Kearney sophomore third baseman Avery Wood going yard in the second.
However, Morales came in and promptly struck out 10 in five innings of relief work. She did give up a hit to Omaha sophomore Abbie Jo Gaube in the fourth.

The 'Cats scored two with two down in the fifth to take control. Back-to-back singles, a throwing error and another single brought home two and RSU never looked back. Nine different 'Cats had a hit with Morales improving to 26-3 in throwing 75 pitches.

Colorado sophomore lefty Madison Rosenthal as the tough luck loser as she allowed four earned in 4.2 innings.
