Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track and field team has qualified six men and three women for the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships May 26-28 in Allendale, Mich.

Grand Valley State is hosting this event for a second straight year at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium. The complete schedule (note Eastern times) is available; fans not in attendance can follow along via live results and a free live video stream.

Fremont sophomore Wes Ferguson will try and win another 800-meter national title. He placed first at indoors (1:50.05) and has the nation's third best outdoor time at 1:47.80. His competition includes Colorado State-Pueblo's Reece Sharman-Newell (1:45.56) and Butare Rugenerwa of West Texas A&M (1:47.75). Wes Ferguson

Next, Kearney sophomore high jumper Brayden Sorensen was third a year ago in Allendale and is looking for his fourth All-American honor. Ferguson and McCool Junction redshirt junior Luke Stuckey have previously earned two All-American honors (first-team top eight; second-team places nine through 12) with O'Neill sophomore Abby Everitt tying for 12th in the high jump last spring.

Finally, Stuckey will run the 1,500 prelims on Thursday, May 26 at 4:10 p.m. Central to be the first Loper in action. The other six UNK competitors are each looking for their first AA honor; Kearney graduate student Anna Squiers threw the discus at the 2018 NCAA meet in Charlotte to be the other national veteran.

Below are UNK's qualifiers, their rank in the meet, event, time/mark and the date(s) of competition in Michigan.

As always, there are Lopers who just missed making the cut. This year, the closest were Central City junior Andrew Schuller (hammer), Elm Creek junior Claire Cornell (long jump) and Kearney sophomore Grace Bonsall (10,000). UNK had a total of 28 provisional qualifiers this spring including four in the men's high jump and two each in five other events.
