Strong Start in Sioux Falls

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams finished third (men) and fourth (women) at the annual Augustana Twilight meet Friday night in Sioux Falls.

The 20th-ranked men tallied 94 points to trail only South Dakota State (24) and fourth-ranked Augie (80). UNK came in ahead of, among others, both Nebraska (128) and Creighton (221). The Loper women had 112 points to trail SDSU (84), UNL (97) and Minnesota State (98). The Blue & Gold beat Division I members South Dakota, Nebraska Omaha and Creighton. It was a four-mile race on the men's side and a 5k for the women.

Ainsworth redshirt junior Ben Arens came in fifth (19:26.50) with Iowa redshirt sophomore Myles Bach three spots back (19:43.22). Ben Olson of SDSU won in a time of 19:08.21. UNK's final three scorers were all in the top 30 in McCool Junction senior Luke Stuckey (23rd/19:58.25), Kansas sophomore Brent Schoenofer (28th/20:03.12) and North Platte freshman Evan Caudy (30th/20:04.47).

Kearney redshirt sophomore Grace Bonsall (8th/18:06.30) led the women with UNL's Alea Hardie winning (17:00.37). UNK's next three scorers were all in the top 27 in Fremont sophomore Mara Hemmer (20th/18:37.92), Hooper redshirt sophomore Elizabeth Polk (22nd/18:46.93) and Kansas true freshman Lexi Liess (27th/18:49.99). Omaha redshirt junior Hannah Pollan (45th/19:14.08) and Albion sophomore Jordan Soto-Stopak (46th/19:16.43) were the next two Lopers across the line.

UNK heads to Lincoln for the annual Greeno/Dirksen Invite on September 17th.
