Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis team went 1-1 on its final day of the 2023 Intercollegiate Association (ITA) Cup in Rome, Ga.

The four-day, double elimination tournament began Thursday and runs and features men's and women's singles and doubles draws.

Senior Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico) upset fourth-seeded Prinkle Singh of the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Saturday to reach the consolation finals. She rolled 6-4, 6-3 and was set to play Alessa Maier of Texas A&M-Kingsville. However, that'll not be contested.

In the men's consolation quarters, freshman Maksym Kulish (Ukraine) fell in three sets to Washburn's Sebastian Pojatek (6-3, 2-6, 2-6). These two met in the Central Region semis with Pojatek also winning in three. Kulish could've faced Alexander Leischner of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) but that match will not be played.

The UNK women are off until February 2024 with the men taking part in the Washburn Invite Oct. 20-21 in Topeka.
