UNK Falls in Tahlequah, Remains on the Road Next Weekend

Kearney, Neb. – The Northeastern State RiverHawks scored in the final minute of the first half and then added some insurance in the second half to beat Nebraska Kearney, 4-0, Sunday afternoon in Tahlequah.

The 'Hawks improve to 4-5-2 (2-4-1) while the Lopers fall to 2-10-2 (1-4-1). NSU also has won the last three games in the series, each by shut out.

With just over a minute remaining in the first half, UNK was in scoring position as it had the ball in the NSU right corner. However, the 'Hawks got possession back near the end line and then a long ball had them on the move. Unfortunately, a shot attempt from the top of UNK's left box went off a defender's hand. That led to a penalty kick with sophomore Sydney Taylor converting for her sixth goal of the fall. She went low and to the left on the attempt.

Just three minutes into the second half, NSU struck again as Taylor sent a corner towards the center box. UNK couldn't corral the loose ball, but English junior Josie Jarvis was there to poke it into the net. She added a putback goal two minutes later with Taylor scoring again via a free kick at 72:12.

Three Loper reserves had shots in Bolivian junior Ivana Siles, Kansas City junior sophomore Emily Flowers and Kansas sophomore Reagan Downes. Keepers Susie Bovaird (Lincoln East) and Mackenzie Smith (Lincoln H.S.) each recorded five saves.

UNK remains on the road next weekend as it travels to Central Missouri and Missouri Southern.
