UNK Faces RMAC Rivals at Altitude

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney swimming & diving team had its second regular season meet of the year, traveling to Pueblo, Colo, this weekend to face Western Colorado and Colorado State-Pueblo.

The double dual/triangular began Friday night and ran into early Saturday afternoon. The Aqualopers were nipped by the T-Wolves, 244-164, and fell to the Mountaineers, 341.50-84.50. Note the action was held at 4,692 feet so conversions for several events were in place.

In diving, McCook sophomore Shayann Parlier won on the 3-meter (163.10 points) board and was runner up at 1-meter (297.55 points). In individual swimming events, UNK had two second place efforts as Colorado junior Karley Bennett had a 1:02.37 in the 100-butterfly with Norfolk sophomore Maggie Waddington turning in a 26.45 in the 50-freestyle.

Next, Kansas sophomore Gabby Grace was third in the later 50 free (27.19) and placed fifth in the 100-backstroke (1:04.57) and sixth in the 100-free (57.85). Also having UNK's top time and finishing fifth was Colorado freshman Katia Neufeld-Barclay in the 1,650-free (19:59.50), Texas sophomore Maggie Wells in the 400-individual medley (5:14.27), Columbus senior Emily Miksch in the 100-breaststroke (1:11.70) and Arizona junior Tea Oltjenbruns in the 200-free (2:08.31).

Finally in relays, the Aqualopers were third in the 200 free (1:47.36) with Miksch, Oltjenbruns, Bennett and Oklahoma junior Makayla Seal the squad members.

The Aqualopers lone home regular season event will be Nov. 3-4 at Kearney High.
