Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams finished up their fall slate this weekend at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka.

Besides the Ichabods, Emporia State and Rockhurst were in attendance. There were multiple draws in both singles and doubles (championship and consolation).

Junior Masha Hatouka (Belarus) went 3-0 in both singles and doubles to lead the way. She reached the "C/East" finals thanks to wins over Washburn and Emporia and paired with senior Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico) to win the "B/East" doubles title. Both of their victories came by 9-7 scores.

Also on the women's side, veterans Melisa Becerra (Colombia) and Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) reached the "A/Blue" double finals with Ranaivo and freshman Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) both reaching the "B/Red" singles finals. Instead of facing each other for the title, they played other opponents. Finally, junior Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) went 3-0 in the "C/East" singles draw but didn't face Hatouka for first place.

On the men's side, freshmen Ahmed Abdelaziz (Egypt) and Tom van den Dungen (The Netherlands) reached the "E/Orange" singles finals thanks to a pair of wins. Like on the women's side, they played other foes instead of each other in the finals and each won. Finally, freshman Jip Mens (The Netherlands) and Andy Brisdon (U.K.) each went 2-1 in the "C/Green" singles draw with Mens and van den Dungen each winning a doubles match.

The Lopers are now off until February 2024 with the winter/spring schedule to be announced.
