Mountain Lions Take Day One

Kearney, Neb. – The Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions rallied late in game one and got a complete game five-hitter in the night cap to sweep a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 8-7 and 7-1, Sunday afternoon in Colorado.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 12 p.m. Central for another double header. UNK (3-3) beat the Mountain Lions (2-5), 4-3, last weekend in Texas.

UNK was seemingly headed to a 7-2 win in the first game but UCCS belted a two-out, three-run homer in the sixth and a two-out, two-run shot in the seventh to tie things up. They then walked it off thanks to two singles, one of the infield variety, and two walks. The game-winning run came scored on a 3-2 count.

Lincoln sophomore Leah Jurgens had a three-run double in the first with Lincoln sophomore Lyndsey Roth (1 for 2, two runs, two RBI's) belting a two-run shot to left in the fifth. Finally, California sophomore Sydney Thomason allowed two earned in five full innings of work.

The Lions saw senior Solana Martinez (2 for 3, four RBI's) and sophomore Paige White (2 for 4, two RBI's) have the big dingers with freshman Autumn Kunze allowing one run over the final 2.1 innings.

UCCS took control of game two thanks to a five-spot in the top of the third. The inning featured a Loper error, four singles and two walks. Redshirt senior Braelyne Crenshaw didn't need any more help as she went the distance, allowing one earned on five hits and two walks while fanning seven.

Thomason (1 for 2, RBI) and Jurgens (2 for 3) paced UNK.
