Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney head women's basketball coach Carrie Eighmey has been cited by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for being one of the top coaches in NCAA Division II for the 2022-23 year.

A panel of coaches from around the country selected eight finalists for the WBCA Coach of the Year and Eighmey was one of the honorees. Kari Pickens of top-ranked and unbeaten Ashland, Ohio (34-0) was chosen as the National Coach of the Year.

In eight years as Lopers head coach, Eighmey has the second most wins (165) in school history. She guided the 2022-23 Lopers to a 28-5 record, winning the MIAA regular season title with a 20-2 mark. That league stretch included 15 straight wins with UNK going a perfect 15-0 at home. Finally, the Blue & Gold reached the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season, tallied 24 wins for a fourth straight winter and tied the school-record for wins in a season.

Earlier this month, Eighmey was tabbed as the MIAA Coach of the Year. She was named the 2021 World Exposure Division II National Coach of the Year.
