UNK Blanks the Comets, Falls to #7 UCO

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Sydney Thomason and junior Madison Rosenthal combined on a one-hit complete game shutout and junior Abbie Jo Gaube went 4 for 4 to help Nebraska Kearney beat Cottey (Mo.) College, 6-0, Sunday morning in Springfield, Mo.

This game was part of the weather-delayed Drury Invite. The Lopers (9-13) battled No. 7 Central Oklahoma in the weekend finale but the 'Chos tallied eight in its half of the sixth to win 14-6. The two teams will meet again later this year for MIAA contests.

Against the NAIA Comets (8-9) from Nevada, Mo., Thomason (Ripon, Calif.) tossed the first five innings and Rosenthal (Johnstown, Colo.) the final two. They combined for seven K's to work around six walks and double in the second. Offensively, Gaube (Omaha Gross) knocked in a run in the fourth with sophomore catcher Jaiden Harteker (Windsor, Colo.) having two RBI's right behind her in the order.

Thomas, Harteker, Blair senior catcher Katie Gosker and Lincoln sophomore right fielder Lyndsey Roth all went yard against UCO (14-3) as UNK scored four in the fourth and had things tied heading into the sixth. However, the 'Chos had half of its 12 hits in the sixth to record the win.

Harteker and Roth had two RBI's with Gaube going 2 for 3 with a one scored. UCO was paced by junior DP/first baseman Tatum Long (2 for 3, one run & five RBI's) and freshman leadoff hitter Rylee Lemos (3 for 5, three runs and one RBI).

UNK hosts Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri this weekend. Due to weather and field conditions, those MIAA double headers will likely be pushed back from the usual Friday/Saturday format. Details will be announced later this week.
