UNK Warms Up for MIAA's with Second Rumble Meet

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams were second (men) and third (women) at the Platte River Rumble Collegiate Friday afternoon in Ashland.

This was the Lopers final regular season meet of the fall. The MIAA Championships are next Saturday (Oct. 26) in St. Joseph, Mo.

With conference on tap, UNK rested a majority of its regular lineup. Omaha junior Nick Abdalla, in his second meet of the year, did take part and was second overall in a time of 25:39.6. Creighton sophomore Evan Kraus ran the 8k course in 25:33.1 to pace the field of 117.

UNK scored 35 points to trail only CU (23) while besting Division I Missouri-Kansas City, Augustana and several non-D2 schools. On the women's side, the 17th-ranked Lopers scored 78 points to be behind CU (21) and UNO (55) and ahead of UMKC and two others.

Besides Abdalla, the Loper men scorers were South Sioux City redshirt freshman Mesuidi Ejerso (8th/25:56.3), North Platte sophomore Evan Caudy (15th/26:44.11), Hastings junior Landon Eckhardt (16th/26:44.18) and Lincoln true freshman Kale Muir (23rd/27:09.5).

Albion senior Jordan Soto-Stopak (11th/23:15.49) and Omaha sophomore Noelle Abels (12th/23:28.10) paced the Loper women. This was the third meet of the fall for Soto-Stopak. Finally, Kearney junior Emma Bonsall (24th/24:14.42), Dannebrog true freshman Hannah Swanson (30th/24:33.80) and Fremont senior Mara Hemmer (31st/24:34.73) all cracked the Top 35.
