UNK Finishes First & Second in St. Joseph

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams finished first (women) and second (men) at the Griffin Invitational Saturday morning in St. Joseph.

The 14th-ranked women had three of the top five finishers to tally 28 points with the 33rd-ranked men at 63 points to trail only 17th-ranked Northwest Missouri (25).

Central City junior Ella Buhlke (18:08.22) and Blair freshman Reece Ewoldt (18:09.48) placed first and second, respectively, to lead the 5k race. A total of 92 runners reached the finish line with nine schools having a team score. No. 27 Rogers State (49) and No. 26 Northwest Missouri (72) came in second and third.

The Loper other scorers were York freshman Kassidy Stuckey (5th/18:16.56), York sophomore Brynn Hirschfeld (9th/18:39.28) and Kansas sophomore Charis Robinson (11th/18:46.18).

Blair senior Sam Lueders (5th/24:36.24) paced the UNK men with Northwest having four of the top six finishers in the 8k race. David City senior Payton Davis (10th/24:55.95) and Grand Island sophomore Juan Garcia (12th/25:00.45) cracked the Top 15. Grand Bradley of Northwest led the pack of 117 with a 23:54.32. Finally, Kansas senior Brett Schoenhofer (18th/25:15.12) and Omaha junior Nick Abdalla (20th/25:18.83) scored as well. This was Abdalla's first meet of the fall.

UNK runs again at the Platte River Collegian in Ashland on Oct. 18.
