11/25/2024 2:03:00 PM

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney wrestling team is up one spot to fifth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25 poll.

This is a tournament powering ranking index where teams get points based on where individuals are ranked in their respective weight class. A number one ranking is worth 20 points, second is 16 points, third is 13 points etc. Thus, the Lopers tallied 52 points to just be ahead of Glenville State, W.V. (50)

St. Cloud State remains in the top spot (106) with two-time defending national champion Central Oklahoma second (87). UNK duals both the Huskies (Jan. 25) and Bronchos (Feb. 7) later this year. Rounding out the top five are Wisconsin-Parkside (76.5) and McKendree, Ill. (59.5).

Redshirt juniors Crew Howard (1st/285 lbs.), Jackson Kinsella (3rd/197 lbs.), Kaden Hart (10th/174 lbs.) and redshirt sophomore Zach Ourada (3rd/125 lbs.) didn't move in the individual rankings, but redshirt junior Trenton Munoz (14th/165 lbs.) and redshirt sophomore Joseph Airola (12th/141 lbs.) are now in the Top 15 in their respective class.

UNK is next in action Dec. 6 (Fri.) at Kearney High when they dual Fort Hays State Northwest Tech (previously known as Northwest Kansas Tech). The dual begins at 7:30 p.m.
