Kearney, Neb. – The sixth-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team got its 2024-25 season started by going 1-1 in duals Sunday afternoon in Arkansas.

The Lopers beat new MIAA member Ouachita Baptist (pronounced wash-i-tah), 42-4, while falling to Division I Arkansas-Little Rock, 38-10. The UALR Trojans are ranked 20th nationally with OBU, from Arkadelphia, an associate member of the MIAA in wrestling.

Top-ranked Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) and third-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) led the Lopers in both duals. At 285 pounds, Howard had two first period falls with Ourada, the 2024 Division II Rookie  of the Year, having a fall vs. the Tigers and then recording a 12-0 major against the D1 Trojans. The 125-pounder had two 4-point near falls and a takedown in the first period alone.

Overall, UNK had nine bonus point wins against OBU with redshirt sophomore Joseph Airola (Ward, Colo.) and redshirt junior Trenton Munoz (Santa Clarita, Calif.) having tech falls at 141 and 165 pounds, respectively. Redshirt senior Jacobi Deal (Durham, N.C.) did the same at 184 pounds, winning by a 19-4 margin. Finally, third-ranked Jackson Kinsella (Creston, Ia.) four takedowns to beat his opponent by major decision, 13-4.  

The Lopers head to the Dakota Wesleyan Open next Saturday (Nov. 9).
