First Day of the UNK Invite in the Books

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney Aqualopers had 12 top five finishes at its own invitational Friday night at Kearney High.

Western Colorado, Colorado State-Pueblo and Barton (Kan.) County C.C. are in attendance as well as men's team from BCC. UNK scored 474 points to trail just WCU (520) with Pueblo (267) and Cougars (109) well behind. On Saturday, the Sprint meet starts at 9 a.m. with finals set for 3 p.m. The meet can be viewed on The MIAA NetworkElizabeth Welsh

Norfolk junior Maggie Waddington (3rd/2:13.16) and Kansas junior Gabby Grace (4th/2:13.82) cracked the all-time top 10 list in the 200-backstroke. Waddington is now fourth in Aqualoper lore with Grace two spots back. Next, Grace swam lead and Waddington was the anchor for the first-place 400-free relay team (3:39.90). The "A" team also included Oklahoma senior Makayla Seal and Kearney sophomore Anai Aguirre.

Waddington and Aguirre were on the "B" 400-medley relay team that started the day. They finished runner up (4:05.91) with Colorado senior Karley Bennett the second leg and Kansas City junior Reese True third. Finally, Oklahoma junior Miriam Finch was second in the 1,000-free (11:36.82) and third in the 1,650-free (19:34.72) with Colorado senior Lauren Carlson third on the 1-meter board (183.1).
