A 9-2 First Semester Capped by Moore's Triple Double

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Samantha Moore had a triple double and was one of six players to score in double figures to help Nebraska Kearney dominate York, 95-26, Monday night at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers finish up the first semester at 9-2 while the Panthers remain at 2-8 as this was an exhibition game per NAIA rules.

UNK suited just eight players as two reserves are out with injuries and four others are redshirting. No one logged more than 29 minutes with each scoring at least five points and everyone having at least one board and an assist.

"Tonight was really about continuing the momentum we feel like we started to build. I've said it publicly a bunch; we felt like defensively we didn't have it for a couple of weeks," said Loper head coach Drew Johnson. "So, we needed to get into the groove where defense matters to us. We did that against Washburn, against Central Missouri and again tonight."

Moore (Mullen) totaled 16 points, a career-high 10 rebounds (seven defensive) and a career-high 10 assists. This is believed to be the first triple double in school history as she pulled down a rebound in the late fourth quarter. Lincoln redshirt junior point guard Jillian Aschoff has gotten very close over the last two years and did so again tonight; 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

"She did a great job of staying aggressive early, rebounded it well and in the second and third quarters, she was finding her teammates all over the place," said Johnson. "Proud of her dedication and it couldn't happen to a better person."

The Lopers got out to a 24-0 lead and never looked back. Lincoln sophomore forward Brinly Christensen scored the game's first eight points with York going just 4 of 26 (15%) from the field in the first half. They did go 3 of 7 from behind the arc in the third quarter and were only minus eight on the boards.

Off the bench, South Dakota redshirt sophomore post Bailee Sobczak had a game-high 17 points thanks to 8 of 12 shooting while also having five offensive caroms. Next, Kansas sophomore forward Jordan Sears had 12 points, five boards and three times. One of her five buckets came right after she stole the inbound pass and beat the first quarter buzzer. Finally, Christensen scored the game's final five points to end with 13 with Kansas junior point guard Saniya Simmons at five points, five assists, and three steals.

"We when we guard like that, it's been able to create offense for us," said Johnson. "We scored it well tonight despite shooting it poorly from the three-point line in the second half (3 of 18).  When we shoot it well, I think we are hard to guard. We got some new stuff in that we'll debut next semester. We're excited about where the season is headed."

The 26 points allowed ties for the ninth fewest in school history with the 69-point margin of victory tying for 10th. Next, the 31 assists – on 39 made buckets – ties for sixth best with the 13 made triples tied for ninth. Finally, the 37 three attempts is the fourth highest total.

UNK is off until January 2 at Missouri Western. The Griffons (6-3) are at Division II McKendree (Ill.) tomorrow night in its final game of the fall semester.
