#28 Lions Limit the Lopers in Joplin; #24 'Bods Visit Next Friday

Kearney, Neb. – The 28th-ranked Missouri Southern State Lions outhit Nebraska-Kearney by a 20-3 margin to sweep a double header, 14-0 and 8-0, Saturday afternoon in Joplin.

The Lions (29-10, 9-3) push their win streak to six in a row and improve to 15-3 at home. Meanwhile, UNK (13-20, 1-9) will face its third straight Top 30 team when No. 24 Washburn (30-10) visits Patriot Park next Friday.

In the second game, MSSU scored two runs in both the first and third innings before ending the game with a four run fifth. Eight starters had at least one hit led by sophomore first baseman Katie Gray (1 for 2, one run & three RBI's) with senior pitcher Kara Amos having a solo shot in the first. She improved to 7-3 by throwing three scoreless innings, working around four walks thanks to four K's.

UNK got singles from junior center fielder Eden McNally (Castle Rock, Colo.) and freshman infielder Alyssa Fortik (Raymond) with junior infielder Mary Chvatal (Wahoo) and junior second baseman Rylyn Nelson (Sterling, Colo.) both drawing two walks.

The Lions roared out of the gates with an 11-hit attack in game one. That included three doubles, a triple and a homer. Gray (1 for 1, one run & three RBI's) was efficient again with junior third baseman Abby DeSanto (2 for 2, one run & three RBI's) and senior right fielder Adrianna Young (2 for 3, one run & two RBI's) having productive at bats. In the circle, freshman Kiki Pickens (10-5) threw a five-inning complete game one hitter. She fanned six and walked two in facing 18 batters and throwing 85 pitches.

Chvatal paced the Lopers again, going 1 for 2 with three assists and two putouts in the field.
